Maine Episcopalians speak on marriage equality

Today Maine’s Religious Coalition Against Discrimination held a press conference at St. Luke’s Cathedral in Portland.  Dean Ben Shambaugh of the Cathedral, Bishop Steve Lane, and Deacon Chick Carroll of St. Paul’s, Brunswick, were among the speakers who expressed their support for marriage equality. Clergy and lay people from other denominations and organizations included Bangor Theological Seminary, the United Church of Christ, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, the American Baptist Church, Catholics for Marriage Equality, and the United Methodist Church.

Here’s Ben Shambaugh’s welcome and statement and then Bishop Steve’s statement.  Unfortunately Chick Carroll’s remarks were interrupted by a loud siren close at hand but here’s a good photo of him below.
